Textile water resistance property test is a wide concept which is involved with 3 types of different testing methods: Surface water-repellent test (spray test method), Water permeability resistance test method (hydrostatic pressure), Simulate the rain test (horizontal injection method)
Also it requires different manufacturing craft and requirements accordingly.
Here will introduce second test method: Water permeability resistance test method (hydrostatic pressure). This test can be achieved by High pressure-servo Hydrostatic Head Tester(M023B ).
Fabric water permeability resistance test method (hydrostatic pressure) refers to the fabric to resist water penetration under the condition of water pressure. Also it refers to water directly penetrate through inner slot holes into another side of fabric under a certain pressure. And under the water pressure, fabric will expand and the gap between fabric will be increased, so as to penetrate fabric. For pressed film or coated fabrics, the film or coating will rupture so as to be penetrated by water under water pressure.
In the testing process, usually, apply a continuously increasing water pressure(60cmH2O/min, in the JIS L1092standard is 1000 cmH2O/min) on fabric until appear the third ever-increasing water drop on the surface of fabric, then stop test, record the present hydrostatic pressure value as test result. Test 5 samples and take its average as final result.
This method usually comply with standards AATCC 127, ISO 811, GB/T 4744, JIS L 1092, etc.
Common unit conversion: 1 kPa = 10 cmH2O = 100 mmH2O = 10 mbar
Fabric water permeability resistance tests mainly assess the water resistance ability of fabrics’ close degree between yarn. And nowadays, most assess the textile water penetration resistance property of fabrics after processed by such manufacturing technique as coating, laminating, etc . With the development of outdoor garments, people have higher and higher requirements on water resistance property. And due to production craft and fabric characteristic on the water pressure side will lead to uneven thickness for coating. This requires production technology to improve better.
